This was the first oil I painted the day strict lockdown ended. I had noticed tiny lilac-coloured flowers on the grassy verge by the street. They seemed just so microscopically rich and it made me think about the necessity of beauty during troubled times. I wanted to honour this small moment so I painted the grass and flowers in a royal bed of gold.
